About Blue Sea Designs

Blue Sea Designs is the result of a few transformations as an artist and a business owner. I began my own company 21 years ago with a back-round in art, fabric design and a love for freedom and movement.

Early on my father instilled in me, a value as an artist. He also impressed upon me the amazing opportunities that woman could now achieve in the business world. Coupled with my Gemini nature, I don’t think I ever really had a choice to do anything but be involved in art and entrepreneurship. I enjoyed 21 years running a decorative painting company and working with  amazing artists as well as wonderful clients.

Bringin’ It All Back Home

The past few years have taken me from wanting to spend every day on a job site, away from my studio.  When I was young I made most of the gifts I gave my family and dear friends. ( I still owe my brother an hand knit sock and maybe a few other IOU’S ! ) I found myself longing for those days again. My mother taught me to knit, to sew and to iron and I remember coming home from school for lunch-heading straight to the basement, making a pair of hotpants in about 30 minutes  and heading back to school starving.

So, now I spend whatever time I can in the studio hand painting boxes, and beautifully crafted leather bags; stencinling t shirts and skirts and dresses. I find myslef lfussing with my favorite images , and recreating collages for decoupage glass plates.

What I have come to know about my art-my art ( seperate from the decorative artist)  is that I try to reflect hope. A simple but heartfelt hope. It is the underlying emotional experience that I am connected to and it is the underlying emotional experience that I try to express. Without it, I am lost. ( and I don’t like feeling lost)

The Future of Blue Sea Design

My intention with Blue Sea Designs is to revel in the process of creation. I have few joys greater than this. My hope is that I can bring my designs and creations to the world so that people who feel life as I do- share the experience.

I would love to make this happen 3 ways.

For some, there is nothing like the immediacy of hand created work. But it takes time, and in this world, time and money go hand in hand. So, for those who can afford hand created work, I would like to continue to make and sell work that I create.

Others do not have the means, and so, I would like to employ artists to assist me with creating some of my work at a more large scale. I would also like to offer some of my products, such as some of my wall art, digitally.

And finally, I would like to teach those who want to do it themselves, how to. Actually, I am a very good teacher. I have taught a number of talented artists during my years as a decorative painter, and many have gone to their own businesses, with great success. I would also like to create unique stencils and designs for sale, so that people have a alternative source for  making stuff look awesome.
